• Oral Surgery services

Oral surgeries are often recommended to restore health and function to significantly damaged teeth and gums. Dr. Holger has additional training in oral surgery and can provide a variety of oral surgeries for your benefit, including:

    Bone Grafting

    Periodontal Surgery

  • Bone Grafting

Bone grafts are often performed prior to the placement of a dental implant to ensure that there is enough good quality bone to support the restoration. Using either a natural or synthetic bone substitute, Dr. Meiser can restore jawbone that has atrophied (diminished) over time.

Bone atrophy tends to occur when a tooth has been missing for a long period of time and the jawbone isn’t being regularly stimulated to grow and regenerate by the tooth roots. An atrophied jawbone will cause the shape and contours of the face, jaw, and mouth to change and also will not be able to hold a dental implant securely in place. When a bone graft is performed, the replacement bone material will help encourage your body to regenerate natural bone on its own as well as provide a secure and stable foundation for a dental implant.

  • Periodontal Surgery

Periodontal (gum) disease can significantly affect your oral and overall health and is, in most cases, completely preventable. Periodontal disease begins when calculus and plaque are allowed to accumulate on the teeth and gums. If this accumulation is allowed to continue, the bacteria from the calculus and plaque will begin to eat away at the gums, eventually causing gum, bone, and tooth loss. Untreated periodontal disease has also been linked to several significant health disorders, including, but not limited to:

    • Heart disease
    • Pregnancy complications
    • Stroke
    • Diabetes
    • High blood pressure

There are a variety of treatments available to those who have periodontal disease, ranging from deep cleanings (scaling and root planing) to more extensive periodontal surgery. Dr. Holger has received extensive training in periodontal surgery, including laser periodontal procedures, and can help you halt the progression of periodontal disease. Periodontal surgery and other periodontal treatments at our office are performed with your comfort and health in mind, so you can rest assured knowing that you are in safe and gentle hands.

To avoid periodontal disease, remember to brush at least twice a day, floss daily, and visit the dentist for your cleanings and exams at least once every six months. Also remember to eat a healthy and balanced diet with limited snacking between meals. If you experience gums that are red, swollen, and/or bleeding, contact Holger Dental Group in Minnetonka as soon as possible as these are some of the signs of periodontal disease. We promise to provide you with the high-quality care you need and deserve.
