Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Dr. Holger actually grew up in Germany in the 1980’s, where the average dentist’s office was much more advanced and modern than in the United States at the time. He always liked seeing all the “cool” tools and toys they had, and when he was six or seven years old, he wrote in a journal that he wanted to become a dentist when he grew up!

When he was a little older, he had his wisdom teeth removed and didn’t have the best experience, but that only emboldened him when it came to his future career path. As a dentist, he knew that he would always go the extra mile to make sure his patients felt comfortable and had their anxieties well-managed – and today, he continues to uphold that promise.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

After completing his initial dental education in Germany at Ruprecht-Karls University, Dr. Holger completed his AEGD Residency at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, as well as a Fellowship in their Aesthetic & Implant program, his sedation certification, and a certificate in contemporary restorative and aesthetic dentistry. From there, he pursued countless avenues to further expand his skillset, including completing the curriculums at world-renowned institutions like the Pankey Institute and Kois Center.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Dr. Holger and his wife Michelle (a pediatric dentist) first met when he came to the University of Minnesota as an exchange student, and today they have two sons (Jameson and Bennett) and two dogs (Daisy and Luna). They also regularly have an au pair living with them from different counties like Brazil, France, or Germany. Right now, Anton from Germany is spending a year with them!

Even when he isn’t busy at one of his two locations, Dr. Holger still enjoys doing a lot of things related to dentistry in his spare time, such as his mentor work and teaching. He also regularly partners with an Italian company named Zirkonzahn (they’re essentially the Apple brand of the dental world) to document cases and showcase new technologies, workflows, and materials.

Completely outside of oral healthcare, he makes time to lift weights each week and enjoys going for walks and reading. In the summer, his family loves going to their cabin and surfing on the water. Traveling is also important to him so he can maintain relationships and connections on both a national and a international level. Finally, he likes cooking and in particular, cooking up some BBQ on his smoker.
