Our Proven Gum Disease Treatment Process

Our Proven
Gum Disease
Treatment
Process

  • 01

    Saliva Testing

To determine the most effective treatment method and way forward, we will begin your gum disease treatment process by analyzing your saliva with a lab test. The data we get from your test will allow us to make specific antibiotic recommendations to target the bacteria responsible for your gum infection.

  • 02

    Initial Therapy

Along with creating a Home Hygiene Contract tailored to you, we will complete initial bone and gum infection therapy. During your procedure, we will thoroughly remove bacteria within the pockets and smooth out the root surface of your teeth below the gumline. To ensure you’re comfortable, a local anesthetic will be used.

  • 03

    6-Week Visits

Every 6 weeks, you’ll return to our office for gum disease maintenance treatment, which can include laser periodontal therapy, deep cleanings, and/or antibiotics. We’ll also check on your progress with your Home Hygiene Contract and celebrate the small wins with you on your journey towards boosting your oral health!

  • 04

    Remission

With routine 6-week maintenance visits, our hope is to put your active disease in remission, which we can confirm by measuring bleeding points and re-testing your saliva. Once your gum disease is in remission, our team will graduate you to periodontal maintenance visits every 3 to 4 months.

Types of Gum Disease Treatment

Based on the progression of your gum disease treatment, our team may recommend one or more of the following procedures. At your consultation, we’ll lay out a treatment plan with you and answer any questions you may have to help you feel confident and comfortable in your journey forwards.

Scaling & Root Planing

Scaling and root planing, better known as a deep cleaning, involves the thorough removal of all plaque and tartar from the surface of the teeth and the roots. This therapy for bone and gum infection is often one of the first steps that we take to reduce bacterial load and allow your gum and bone to heal from the current state of inflammation.

Laser Periodontal Treatment

In combination with scaling and root planing, we also utilize our dental soft tissue laser to help kill bacteria and remove severely damaged gum tissue, leaving only healthy tissue behind to reconnect with the teeth to protect their roots.

Saliva Testing & Antibiotic Treatment

One of the first steps that we take before determining how to treat your gum disease is a saliva test to figure out what bacteria need to be targeted. From here, we can recommend the appropriate antibiotic treatment.
